Shahaboddin (Marashi Najafi)

Sahebeh Khanum wanted to lift her husband’s spirits. With a gentle smile, she asked, “By the way, what are you going to name him?” Sayyid paused, then replied, “I’ll ask my teachers tomorrow to choose a fitting name. I want the men of knowledge to guide all the matters of our child.”

The scholars were sitting around the room. With humility, he addressed them, “My dear elders, I have prayed that my son may become a servant of the knowledge of the Prophet and his Holy Household. I ask you to honor me by reciting the azan and iqamah in his ears, and to choose both a name and a title for him.”

On the way home, Shamsoddin went over the names in his mind. One stood out: SHAHABODDIN. Cradling the child before handing him to Sahebeh, he said warmly, “Shahaboddin has missed his mother.”
